About Montego Bay
Christopher Columbus arrived in the bay in 1494 as the first European and
declared it from Spain and named it the Gulf of Good Weather. The Spaniards
used it as a small port for trading lard internationally. The word lard means
‘Manteca’ in Spanish, from the wild pigs that roam in the hills beyond the bay,
hence the English name Montego Bay.

About Negril
Some considered Negrillo to refer to the dark-colored cliffs, located to the south

About Ocho Rios
In 1494 Christopher Columbus landed and claimed the island for Spain. This bay was named Chorreros, which means rapid waters. When the English took over the land from the Spanish, they incorrectly pronounced, misunderstood, and misnamed the Spanish name Chorreros and called the town Ocho Rios. About Kingston

About Runaway Bay
